Have a look at Denis Darzacq’s series of photos titled La Chute. I shan’t comment on them too much (as I am wont to do) cause I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Here are some of them:

I found them via Photojojo; although their entry spoilt the magic of it for me. Aside from photoshop, try guessing the technique he used to get the subject of each photo in his particular position. And yes, they’re all variations of one thing. No expensive, high-tech ropes or cables! The best mysteries often have the simplest of explanations. I think that’s what I like best about the series. It feels so macabre when you first look at them, but when you find out how they were actually made, the pictures take on a new light.
The answer in the extended entry!
Breakdancing was used to achieve the illusion of free falling. Have another look at the pictures, cause I really think they appear entirely different when you know how they were made.

mich: haha uhh. maybe you should go look at some breakdancing videos on youtube… and perhaps you’ll recognise some of the positions?
shumin: But actually, it doesn’t take very long. And it’s not like I go trawling for stuff to put on my blog.. It’s more like.. if I find interesting stuff, then I’ll just put it up
