Just finished The Black Magician Trilogy. I finished the second one and it was so compelling I started reading the third and ended up reading it straight through. Despite my obvious liking for the series, I suppose I can see why it isn’t more popular. It’s like an adult Harry Potter but because it’s not [...]

The Magician’s Guild, Trudi Canavan
This is the best damned book I have read in a very long time. It is definitely right up there with Harry Potter and Eragon and you should go and read it NOW!!!
The story is about Sonea, a slum-living girl, who discovers she has magic powers. I can’t really tell you anymore because the story’s [...]

Unexpected
A few months back, I realised that I had trouble just finishing a book. At the time, I attributed my lack of attention to the fact that it was a sub par book. But I’ve just browsed through the NYT’s 100 Notable Books of the Year -2007 and the only book that remotely interested me [...]

Hooray for YouTube
YouTube joint-account-users vlogbrothers are brothers in real life who vlog (video-blog) to each other almost every day because they live in different states. One brother, John Green, has a book. It’s called An Abundance of Katherines.
Hooray for YouTube because it helped me find the book. Which sounds cheesily nerdy. Which means that it tries very [...]

A few more things.
I was initially intending to write several posts in a row. But I don’t think I will do that now. Which is odd. I decided I would do it from the time I finished my pizza. I was thinking about each different blog entry as I was showering, while I was writing the previous entry [...]

On Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
I had so many things to say about this book. And I had so many different ways of saying them. But in the end, I think everything I’ve written in this post both articulates how I feel about the book and, I hope, lets you feel how I would like you to feel if you [...]

Books and things
I’m reading two books now, both of which I highly recommend.
I borrowed them both from the library and I’d completely forgotten that sometimes when you borrow books from the library, you get people’s old bookmarks.
I think the Clarice Bean book is relatively new so there wasn’t anything inside. But I’ve found these in Extremely Loud [...]

YouTube subscriptions and lots more!
So several things happened today. Namely, I finished my second-to-last exam and Gillian came home.
And, less significantly, I finally got rid of my very embarrassing username on youtube and got the much less self-revealing ufot0fu. Also, because I was mucking around on YouTube, I ended up subscribing to about 20 more users.
It’s quite addictive. [...]

Mr evil evil indian man
xkcd
Haven’t read xkcd in awhile. This comic reminds me of the evil evil indian man at Dymocks who scolded Dan and I for sitting in the provided arm chairs for too long. He said something along the lines of bookshops are meant for selling books not reading books. You guys have been sitting here for [...]

More of THE GUIDE
Sometimes I feel like self destructing in a massively spectacular sort of way.
Like fireworks.
Only bigger.
With a cherry on the top.
If I were a movie reviewer, I’d have a review that started out:
Some movies turn out exactly the way you imagined. Then there are the brilliant few that turn out to be so much more. This [...]
